Rapid growth in the digital economy has precipitated discussions as to how this new borderless economy ought to be taxed. In Malaysia alone, the digital economy contributed more than 18% or RM260 billion of GDP in 2018. As the rate of digitalisation continues unabated, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released the much-anticipated Blueprint for Pillar One and Pillar Two as to how taxing rights ought to be “shared” between countries.
Ms Yeo Eng Ping (Managing Partner, EY Asia-Pacific Tax), Ms Goh Ka Im (Head of Tax & Revenue Practice Group, Shearn Delamore & Co.) and En Shaharrudy bin Othman (Director, Department of International Taxation, Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia) will share their expert views in a panel session moderated by Ms Rachel Saw (IFA Malaysia Branch Chair, Head of IBFD Asia Pacific). We will also hear from Tan Sri Hasmah Abdullah (former Director General of Inland Revenue) on her experiences and the challenges facing today's tax administrations.
